The Middle Ages and Me

How did I get there?

The Carolingean period of the Holy Roman Empire was the subject of a history course I took at Simon Fraser University. We studied a manual written by Countess Dhuoda, a Frenchwoman of this time. Her intent was to guide her two sons, who lived with their father at the court of King Louis the Pious. Her vade mecum (literally "go with me") or handbook has earned her the reputation as the first woman writer of Europe.

My interest in that period, particularly in the roles played by women, started me on the path of creating a series of historical novels based in the Ninth Century. One novel is complete and is being represented by Elizabeth Kracht of Kimberley Cameron & Associates. The second one, developing minor characters from the first, is in progress now.
